I have encountered a rare opportunity to meet an amazing artist who is creating the most amazing embroidery I have ever seen. These are pictures of typical Israeli or Russian landscapes, which are made all out of embroidery threads. When looking at it, it is hard to imagine that it is embroidery. It looks exactly like an oil painting. Her name is Anna Kolupaev. She was born in 1926 in a little village in Russia. After she has graduated from school, she studied in an art college. From 1953 Anna worked as an art teacher, teaching drawing, aesthetics and mathematics. At the age of 50 Anna created her first "Talking Threads" art. She used only threads weaved on canvas. Since then working with this unique and original technique became a major part of her life. From 1977 to 1987 Anna's arts participated in annual national exhibitions in the Soviet Union, and won 7 gold medals and 3 silver medals. Anna migrated to Israel in 1992. She lived in Zefat and then moved to Ma'alot. She had won a few local prizes in Israel for her art. These days she is working 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week on her "Talking Threads" art. I got her permission to publish her work on the web, and sell it on her behalf. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Merav.
