Current Gallery: earth ( piece)
These photographs were achieved by controlling the character of light passing through thin sections (one-millionth of a meter) of rock in order to investigate the minerals and their relationships to one another, constrain the conditions of their formation, and examine the microstructures imprinted on them by the local and regional stresses that built them. All of the samples were collected in various regions of the world and represent not only the fascinating character of rocks and minerals of our planet, but the astonishing beauty of the microworld of our Earth. Their brilliant colors are a function not of digital enhancement, but of their individual atomic structures and the wavelengths of light that each mineral allows through. These are the tools of the petrographer. These are unorthodox glimpses of the ground upon which we all walk.
