Current Gallery: metaphor ( piece)
The body is a vessel of life, growth, consumption, reproduction, and death. These are the equalizing factors of all life on earth, whether it is cucurbitaceous, cacti, or mammal. It is flora and fauna that I choose as metaphors for the most basic and instinctual human characteristics. I paint women in their constructed human habitats, where they perform representations of carnal attributes. One woman enacts a sort of mating display, while another stands swollen with unborn child. Some are emphasized as mammals, predatory even, while others more closely resemble the attributes of a vegetable. I use the representation of the body, through paint, as a vehicle for penetrating human consciousness in relation to the rest of the living world. I am well aware that this consciousness is fickle and fleeting; it is like a glimpse from a window, we stare at the glass to understand the world beyond it.
